(3R) -4,4-Dimethyl-2-oxotetrahydrofuran-3-yl (7S) -3-chloro- 2-chloromethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4-(4- methoxyphenyl)[1]benzothieno[2,3-b]pyridine-7-carboxylate (0.85 g) obtained in Reference Example 17,2,4-dioxo-1,3-oxazolidine (176.8 mg) and potassium carbonate (263.8 mg) were suspended in DMF (4.25 ml), and the suspension was stirred at the internal temperature of 80 to 85C for 2 hrs. The suspension was cooled to room temperature. Ethyl acetate (17 ml) and water (8.5 ml) were added, and the organic layer was separated and washed with water and 10% brine. The solvent was removed by evaporation to give the title compound as a yellow oil (1.22 g).
