The melt was taken into 100 ml. methylene chloride and 18.2 g. phosphorous tribromide added at 0-10C. The residue was washed with water and recrystallized to give 16.7 g. of 3-bromomethyl-2,4-oxazolidinedione; m.p. 63-64C. An NMR spectrum was consistent with its structure. A mixture of 15.0 g.
